Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal has inaugurated the country’s first vertical bifacial solar plant on a metro viaduct in New Delhi yesterday.
Presiding over the 5th International Conference on Green Metro Systems, the minister stressed the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels. He also emphasised using solar energy to tackle issues like global warming, carbon emissions, and air pollution. He further suggested the use of a clap-based system to control air
conditioner temperature and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. During the event, the minister also launched a 1-megawatt rooftop solar plant. He appreciated the efforts of DMRC for leading the way for sustainable urban transport.
The primary aim of the conference was to bring together metro stakeholders throughout the country in developing world-class green urban rail systems and making India a global leader in low-carbon transit.
