On International Women's Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has saluted the indomitable spirit, determination and dedication of Nari Shakti. In a tweet, he said, the various initiatives taken by his Government seek to facilitate economic empowerment, self-reliance and social equality as far as Nari Shakti is concerned.
The Prime Minister will address the National Convention of Women Sarpanch in Gandhinagar today on the occasion of International Women's Day. Women Sarpanch from different parts of the country will attend the event. Mr Modi said he is Looking forward to addressing a conclave of women Sarpanchs and honouring trailblazers who have worked towards a Swachh Bharat. He said he is glad that the Swachh Bharat Mission is a mass movement, with over 100 districts now Open Defecation

The programme has been jointly organised by the Centre and the Gujarat government. As many as 6000 women Sarpanchs will be participating in the programme. As part of the event, over 4000 Women Sarpanchs who have come from different states were taken on tours to villages in 8 districts of the state including Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara and Kutch. Successful case studies of women led self-help groups such as Women led Swachh Village campaign, village agriculture cooperatives, dairy farming, handicraft cooperatives of Kutch were showcased to them in order to help them replicate the same in their respective villages.
The Prime Minister will also be flown to Somnath temple, where he will offer special prayers and attend the meeting of the Somnath Temple Trust.
