Monsoon has arrived in Jammu and Kashmir 10 days ahead of its predicted date, which was July 1. Jammu region and surrounding area received unprecedented rainfall measuring 71.4 mm during the past 24 hours. As per India Meteorological Department, this is the third time in the past 10 years that Jammu has recorded such good amount of rain in 24 hours.
So far, the city has
recorded 117 mm showers and with this, the city has surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 88.4 mm. Met Department has predicted light to moderate showers for the next 48 hours in the state. It said, some places in plains of Jammu may receive a spell of heavy shower in next 24 hours. Monsoon has so far covered almost half of the country, including the drought-hit Marathwada.
