Visakhapatnam: The Southwest Monsoon might set in early in the Rayalaseema region. In normal conditions, the scheduled arrival is on June 4. Last year, it landed on June 19. IMD Amaravati said El Nino is being neutralised and conditions were favorable for the monsoon to set in over Kerala on May 31, and in Rayalaseema two days later. IMD scientist S .Karunasagar said there would be a gap for the rains after its arrival. In the interim, the temperature might shoot up in coastal AP and Rayalaseema. Currently, the temperature has risen by two degrees Celsius in many parts of the state due to the flow of dry winds from north-western India towards the east.
Ongole on Tuesday registered the highest temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Tirupati 41.5, Bapatla 38.4 and Visakhapatnam 38.8. The temperature rose by 2.8 degrees in Bapatla and 2.4 degrees in
Visakhapatnam. Heat conditions would prevail over coastal AP and Rayalaseema in June, when heat waves are likely. The temperature would come down in July and August due to continuous rain as per IMD’s latest report.
An earlier report too mentioned that the state would get above-normal rainfall. The excess rainfall would be in July and August. As for the current status, the IMD report said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into more parts of the south Arabian Sea and the Maldives area. “The conditions are favourable for further advancement into more parts of south Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, more parts southwest and central Bay of Bengal, northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of North-Eastern states during the same period.”
