The first phase of polling for the Manipur assembly elections was held yesterday. More than 84 percent voter turnout was recorded in this phase. The fate of 173 candidates, including 15 females, was at stake as polling took place across 38 constituencies spread across six districts. BJP fielded 38 leaders, while 35 were from
Congress.
Polling officials sealed Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and VVPATs after the conclusion of the voting. The Election Commission has decided to conduct the Manipur Assembly elections in two phases - February 28 and March 5. The election results will be announced on March 10.
