More than 900 kg of suspected beef was seized by the police from Mumbai's Santacruz area today.
A mini-tempo carrying the suspected beef was on the Western Express Highway when it was intercepted.
Members of a group called the Hindu Seva Sangh received a tip-off about the consignment and stopped the tempo. Subsequently, the group informed the police.
According to the police, the incident took place at 7 am.
"We have seized the consignment. The quantity is more than 900kg. The
FSL (Forensic Science Lab) team was called to collect the samples. The results should be out within two days," said a senior officer at the Vakola police station where the incident was reported.
Police are waiting for the FSL report before filing an FIR in the case.
Sandeep, a member of the Hindu Seva Sangh said, "We received a tip-off regarding the consignment of suspected beef and laid a trap on the Western Express Highway. We called the cops who will further investigate the matter".
