The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a 20 per cent increase in the honorarium for elected public representatives of all urban bodies. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that starting next month, all mayors, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and councillors will benefit from this increase. He was addressing the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Women Public Representatives Conference in Bhopal yesterday.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that special incentives would be provided to help urban bodies become financially self-reliant. He said, the municipality which increases its income the most
through taxes and fees in its division will receive 2 crore rupees, and the Municipal Council will receive 5 crore rupees as incentives each year. This amount will be used as a councillor fund by public representatives for infrastructural works they recommend.
The honorarium for the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation will increase from 22,000 to 26,400 rupees. The honorarium for the vice-chairperson will increase from 18,000 to 21,600 rupees, and the honorarium for the councillor will increase from 12,000 to 14,400 rupees per month.
