The Union Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises has announced that the 25% increase in the wages of spinners and the 7% increase in the wages of loom weavers have come into effect from October 2. This announcement was made on the 17th of last month. The Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Manoj Kumar, stated that spinners who previously earned 10 rupees per hank will now receive 12.50 rupees.

Mr. Kumar emphasised that, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure over the past decade, wages have increased by nearly 213 percent, symbolising the



economic empowerment of rural India through Khadi. He also announced a 20 percent discount on Khadi products and a 10 percent discount on Village Industries products. He added that the discount campaign, which began today, will continue nationwide until the 30th of next month.

The Chairman credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for transforming the lives of spinners and weavers through the Khadi Revolution. He further mentioned that the Khadi sector’s business crossed 1.55 lakh crore rupees in the last fiscal year.
