Bengaluru: Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has assured on Friday that Bengaluru will be decongested and a multi-mode transport system will be introduced in the city.
Addressing media persons in Bengaluru yesterday at the conclusion of Manthan conclave, the minister said that he held two rounds of talks with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on resolving traffic jams in the city. He added that the state has been asked to set up an authority that can coordinate with all the agencies working in the area of infrastructure.
He informed that public transport must be encouraged by introduction of double decker and trolley buses as in Mumbai. He informed that a suggestion was given on the introduction of sky bus in Bengaluru, for which a feasibility report
will be obtained from international experts in three months.
He also said that greenfield corridors being built between Pune-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Chennai will ease traffic within the city. The construction of multi-mode logistic park on the periphery of the city will also be helpful.
He also said that road, flyover and metro can be built on single pillar saving land acquisition cost and NHAI will come out with a plan in this regard for Bengaluru.
On Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway project, the minister noted that water logging is reported on the service road and this will be rectified. He informed that the Prime Minister will be invited to inaugurate this important road connectivity between Bengaluru and Mysuru.
