A Mumbai court today granted bail to former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case. 

An RSS activist has filed a defamation case against Gandhi for allegedly linking the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh to the BJP-RSS ideology. 

Mr. Gandhi pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently released on bail with surety amount of fifteen thousand rupees.

A day after



publicly announcing his resignation as Congress president, Rahul Gandhi today landed in Mumbai to appear before a local court in the defamation case.

After landing at Mumbai airport in the morning, he left directly for the court in south Mumbai. Several senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Milind Deora accompanied Mr Gandhi while he reached the Sewri court to show solidarity towards him.
