A Mumbai Court has granted pardon to 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind David Coleman Headley on condition that he turns an approver. Headley, a Pakistani-American terrorist, will depose as a prosecution witness on the 8th of February next year.
Appearing before the court via video-conferencing, from an undisclosed location in the United States yesterday, Headley said he is ready to turn approver and will answer all questions, if he is pardoned in the case. Headley was made accused in the terror attacks after a special court’s order in Mumbai. Currently, he is lodged in a jail in the US after he was arrested by the FBI. He has been
sentenced to 35 years in prison by a US court when he confessed to his role in the 26/11 attacks to the US authorities.
He drew maps, took video footage and scouted several targets for the attacks including the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel and Nariman House during his five visits to Mumbai between 2006 and 2008.
His reconnaissance provided vital information for the 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and their handlers, who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008 in which 166 people were killed. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Abu Jundal, who is facing trial in the case, was also produced before the court yesterday via video conferencing.
