The Mumbai Crime Branch has made another arrest in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddique, bringing the total number of accused taken into custody to 26. A 26-year-old man, Sumit Dinkar Wagh, was arrested in Nagpur by a team investigating the case. Wagh, a resident of Akola district in Maharashtra, is accused of facilitating key financial transactions critical to the murder plot.
The former Maharashtra minister was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office while he was bursting crackers on October 12, on the occasion of Dussehra.
According to the authorities, Wagh used a Karnataka Bank account, located in the Petlad branch in Anand, Gujarat, to transfer money to several key conspirators. Funds were sent to
Nareshkumar, the brother of the arrested accused Gurnail Singh, as well as to Rupesh Mohol and Harishkumar, both of whom are already in custody.
Police revealed that Wagh conducted these transactions using internet banking and a newly acquired SIM card, which was registered in the name of Salman Vora, another accused already arrested in the case.
The account used for these transactions was also opened in Vora's name, highlighting the sophisticated efforts to conceal the trail. Authorities stated that Wagh acted on instructions from Shubham Lonkar, a wanted accused who remains at large.
Investigations revealed that Wagh and Lonkar were long-time friends, having studied together in Akot City, Akola district.
