A long cherished dream of the Mumbai local rail commuters will come true today. With its maiden journey from Churchgate to Borivali stations, the first air-conditioned suburban local of the Western railway will provide a comfortable option in Mumbai from today.
For those using AC local from today it will mark the end of the sultry and sweaty local commuting in this coastal mega city. Suburban locals are the life lines of the metropolis and ply 75 lakh commuters daily.

Ravindra Bhatkar said the first
AC local will run in the morning today. The final technical trial run of the AC rake was conducted on Sunday in the presence of the senior officers and it was successful. From first of January, the AC local journey will be extended up to Virar with a schedule of 12 services per day.
It will have a higher fare of minimum 60 rupees and the first class ticket-holders would also be allowed to travel in the first class non-AC compartments of this AC local train.
