As a precautionary measure, in case a third wave of Corona virus hits Mumbai, the city’s civic body has decided to set up four COVID Care Centres with a combined capacity of 5,500 beds.
Additional Municipal Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai Suresh Kakani said that one thousand of these beds will be ICU beds while at least seventy per cent of remaining beds will be oxygen beds.
These new centres will come
up at Kanjurmarg, Malad, Mahalaxmi and Byculla areas.
Stating that no one knows for sure when and how the third wave will hit the region, Mr. Kakani said, if there is indeed a third wave; this action plan will help in ensuring that no patient suffers due to lack of medical infrastructure.
He added that power back-up facilities are also being installed across Jumbo COVID Care Centres.
