Congress presidential candidate Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not his model for winning elections. The Congress leader said that he looked up to Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru as his role models.
“Narendra Modi is fighting on another ideology and you know congress ideology. Modi is having money and muscle power and I don’t want to make Modi my model,” said Mallikarjun Kharge, adding," My (role) model is Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharla
Nehru.”
The 80-year-old Congress leader remarked that he decided to enter the Congress's presidential poll fray after members of the Gandhi family refused to contest the poll.
Addressing the media persons in Chandigarh, Kharge said "We wanted Rahul Gandhi to be president. And we may have weakened as a party but we improved our numbers. We won in seven states but some of our MLAs were stolen from each state. That is why I have decided to fight elections, to strengthen the party."
