Congress leader Nana Patole has been elected as the Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kisan Kathore withdrew his nomination.
Pro tem speaker Dilip Walse Patil made the announcement. Maharashtra BJP legislature party leader Devendra Fadnavis was named Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. Newly-elected Speaker Nana Patole made the announcement in the
House.
Congratulating Mr Fadnavis, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that he won’t call him as an 'Opposition leader', but will call him a 'responsible leader'.
Mr Thackeray added that he has learnt a lot of things from Mr Fadnavis and will always be friends with him. Mr Thackeray also added that he is still with the ideology of 'Hindutva' and won't ever leave it.
