Narendra Modi to leave for Davos today for World Economic Forum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for Davos, Switzerland for the 48th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

PM Modi is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the opening day of the meeting on Tuesday. 

Among those who will accompany PM Modi are Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Industrialist Mukesh Ambani, Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekharan, industrialists Anand Mahindra, Gautam Adani, Azim Premji and Rahul Bajaj are also expected to be in attendance. As are UK-based industrialists Lakshmi Mittal, Anil Aggarwal and the Hindujas.

The meeting, which has the theme, "Creating a shared future in a Fractured World", aims to set an agenda to address political, economic and Social challenges of recent



times.

PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with the President of Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset, besides holding a series of meetings with business leaders and addressing the international business council.

The prime minister wrote on Twitter yesterday that he looked forward "to sharing my vision for India’s future engagement with the international community." He also wrote that he was confident that the bilateral meetings would be "fruitful". 

PM Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to participate in the World Economic Forum in two decades after HD Deve Gowda who visited Davos in 1997.

Over 3,000 global leaders from business, government, politics, academia and social sectors are participating at the Summit this year. The World Economic Forum begins on January 22 concludes on January 26.
