Naroda Patiya case: Maya Kodnani Wants Amit Shah To Appear In Her Defence

Former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani has moved a special court to summon 14 persons including Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah in connection with her defence in the Naroda Gam massacre case. She already stands convicted in the Naroda Patiya massacre case, the worst instance of communal violence during the 2002 riots in Gujarat, which left almost 100 people dead.

Eleven people were killed in the Naroda Gam massacre.

It was reported that Kodnani wants "Amit Anilchandra Shah" to be summoned in order to prove that "she had met Shah at the Assembly and Sola Civil Hospital as well" on 28 February 2002, the day communal riots



erupted in Naroda Gam and Naroda Patiya. Kodnani wants to prove that she, Shah and other leaders had visited the hospital on 28 February to see the bodies of victims of the Sabarmati Express which was burnt in Godhra.

The reports said that Kodnani wants to prove that she was at Sola civil hospital, the nursing home she ran in the Asarwa area of Ahmedabad and the civil hospital in Asarwa, following which she returned home.

Kodnani was sentenced to 28 years in prison for murder, attempted murder and conspiracy in August 2012. In July 2014, the Gujarat High Court granted her bail and suspended her sentence due to health reasons.
