New Delhi: The National Girl Child Day is being celebrated across the country today. It was started by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development on 24th January 2008 with the purpose to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities girls face in the Indian society.
The day is celebrated by organizing various programs including awareness campaigns on save the girl child, child sex ratio and creating a healthy and safe environment for a girl child.
In Nagaland, various activities are being held across the districts to celebrate the National Girl Child Day today. Marking the occasion, week-long awareness campaigns such as rallies and signature
campaigns are organized in towns and villages by the District Administration in collaboration with the Mahila Shakti Kendras, State Women and Child development department. The District Administrations are also conducting door to door campaign with Anganwadi workers and ASHA.
Open Painting Competition for both boys and girls in schools, Tree plantation in the name of Girl, District-level Felicitation of local champions are also organized. Besides, awards for the Best Girl- Friendly Panchayat, Best School Management Committee, Best Frontline Workers, Girl Achievers in sports, academic and cultural will be presented during Republic Day ceremony.
