Navi Mumbai: Major fire at ONGC's Uran plant, two injured

Mumbai: Two employees sustained minor injuries after a minor fire broke out at ONGC's gas plant at Uran in Navi Mumbai on Thursday evening. The fire was brought under control within an hour, police said.

Sunil Patil, a senior police inspector from Uran police said that the fire broke out around 5.30 pm and it was brought under control by around 6.15 pm. “Two persons were injured in the fire and they are labourers,” said Patil. He added that it was a minor fire. However, villagers from nearby areas panicked after seeing thick, black smoke coming out of the plant.

According to police, the internal fire fighting system doused it. However, the CIDCO fire brigade from Dronagiri was also called to join the operation. An official from CIDCO’s Dronagiri fire station said that by the time they reached the spot, it was brought under



control.

The exact cause of the fire is not known, however, the short circuit is believed to be the reason for the fire. The civil work was also going on inside the campus and the fire caught after a sound from the construction site, said an official from CIDCO’s Dronagiri Fire station who also went to the site after a fire call.
