National Commission for Women yesterday sought a report from the Maharashtra government following the death of a mother and child due to negligence of Mumbai Civic Hospital. In a social media post, the Commission said that allegations of the hospital’s reliance on a cell phone torch for a caesarean delivery due to a power outage, and the subsequent loss of life, are deeply concerning.
It mentioned that this incident in the
nation’s financial capital highlights serious issues in healthcare facilities in the state that demand immediate attention. The commission further asked the
Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Healthcare Department of Maharashtra to submit a detailed report into the matter within three days. It also demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
