In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) conducted a table-top exercise at Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra (SANJY) 2024.
The meeting was chaired by Major General Sudhir Bahl (Retd), who took a review of the various agencies and departments involved in disaster management in the context of SANJY 2024.
Earlier, the meeting commenced with opening remarks by Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd). He stressed the national significance of the Yatra and emphasised the
importance of swift mitigation and response to any disaster and hazards including cloud bursts, floods, fire, landslides, rockfalls etc.
Later, under the chairmanship of Major General Sudhir Bahl (Retd), various departments, agencies and authorities including the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, J&K Police, CRPF, Fire and Emergency Services, India Meteorological Department, Border Roads Organisation and others presented their preparedness. Notably, the SANJY 2024 is scheduled to begin on 29th June on both the Baltal and Pahalgam axes.
