Neiphiu Rio will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland today. Governor PB Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the NDPP leader and his Council of Ministers at the Kohima Local Ground.
The NDPP-BJP alliance government is being formed under the banner of People's Democratic Alliance. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President Amit Shah and party General Secretary Ram Madhav are among those who will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
The Governor has asked Mr Rio to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before the 16th of this month. NPF leader TR Zeliang had resigned as the Chief Minister on Tuesday.
For the first time in Nagaland, the swearing-in ceremony is being held outside the Raj
Bhavan. This time, the State has invited the common people to the ceremony through newspaper advertisements issued by the State Department of Information and Public Relations. The swearing-in ceremonies in the state have so far been high-profile shows at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, with VVIPs, VIPs and top bureaucrats in attendance.
Meanwhile, in another twist to the political development in Nagaland, the State unit of Nationalist Peoples’ Party (NPP) has decided to keep in abeyance the Letter of Support to the NDPP-BJP alliance. The State Unit of NPP said the decision was taken in view of the direction issued by State Governor, P B Acharya to obtained authorization and endorsement from the Party High Command for the Letter of Support to the Alliance.
