Nirmal: Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier said crime-free society could be achieved with the help of modern technology. He was launching Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) at the district police head office here on Tuesday.

The system to electronically capture finger and palm prints of suspected or accused persons in short span of time, replacing the traditional method of recording fingerprints through ink, slab and roller, was introduced. Similar facility was recently launched in Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.

Warrier said Telangana police were pioneers in using advanced technology in the country. Crime rate would be reduced with advent of this system invented by Russia.

Identification of offenders would be simplified following introduction of this system. Criminals would no longer be able to hoodwink police by destroying evidence, he added.

AFIS devices could be attached to any android mobile phone or tablets. By a touch of fingerprint, the captured images would be compressed and conveyed to the AFIS server for automatic matching against database for real- time identification in the field. They could be used in police mobile vehicles, in night patrolling vehicles, and Rakshak, as well as during Nakabandi in order to identify the suspects.

Nirmal DSP T Manohar, Inspectors John Diwakar, Jeevan Reddy, and Balaraju, and sub-inspectors Suman, M A Kareem and many other police officials were present.
