Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday vowed to deliver a stable government over the next five years, saying his administration would prioritise progress over political vendettas.
“In the last 2.5 years, we have worked for the development of Maharashtra, and from here too, we will work for the development of Maharashtra, and we will not stop now,” Fadnavis said during his first press conference since taking office. “The direction and speed is the same, only our roles have changed. We will take decisions for the betterment of Maharashtra. We want to complete the works that we mentioned in our manifesto,” he added.
Fadnavis said the mandate from the 2024 assembly elections reflected the people’s expectations and support for his government. “I feel the pressure of their hope,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister assured that Maharashtra would
continue to grow at the same pace in the social, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
On the opposition's allegation that industries are moving from Maharashtra to Gujarat, Fadnavis said, "We have repeatedly replied to the opposition with data. Today I will tell you another new thing, that 90% of the FDI we got last year, we have got in just 6 months. I will soon announce some industries. My discussions are in the final stage, which will make the people of Maharashtra very happy."
Fadnavis announced that a new speaker of the state assembly would be selected on December 9 during a three-day special session starting on December 7.
He also confirmed plans to expand the state cabinet, which now includes Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, before the winter session of the legislature in Nagpur later this month.
