New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Delhi Government over the reported stopping of food to a shelter home in the Nizamuddin area being run by it for about five hundred inmates. NHRC also decided to depute its team to investigate the spot.

The Commission asked for a detailed report from the Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government within one week regarding the present status of the food supply in the Shelter Home and the health condition of the inmates, particularly children, sick and



old age persons residing in the shelter home.

NHRC has also asked its Director General (Investigation) to depute a team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police to conduct an on-the-spot fact-finding investigation into the matter and submit a report to the Commission.

NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance in the matter based on a media report. The Commission said that it is the duty of the state to ensure that no one is left without food in the shelter home.
