The National Investigation Agency has arrested one more accused in the Visakhapatnam espionage case involving the leakage of classified defence information through a Pakistani ISI spying network. The person named Amaan Salim Shaikh was arrested from Mumbai on Monday, taking the total number of arrests to three.
According to an official press release, Amaan was found involved in the activation of the SIM cards that were being used by the Pakistani Intelligence Officers involved in the racket. In raids carried out at two locations in Mumbai and a third at Hojai in Assam,
the NIA seized a total of four mobile phones and a lot of sensitive documents.
According to the NIA chargesheet that names four persons, including two absconding Pakistani operatives, an espionage module was being run under which sensitive and vital information pertaining to the Indian Navy was procured and leaked to Pakistan-based handlers.
NIA has said that investigations are still on and the custodial interrogation of Amaan is expected to yield more leads in the conspiracy.
