NIA court in Lucknow yesterday convicted 28 individuals in the murder case of Chandan Gupta, who was killed during a communal clash in Kasganj during the Tiranga Yatra on January 26, 2018. The quantum of punishment will be announced on Friday.
The court, led by Additional District and Session Judge Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi, found the Accused guilty under
several sections of the IPC. Kasganj Police filed a chargesheet in July 2018, adding Section 124A (sedition), leading to the case’s transfer to the NIA Court. Initially, 30 individuals were accused; however, two were acquitted during charge framing. The incident occurred during a Republic Day Tiranga Yatra involving 100 motorbikes with Indian and saffron flags.
