New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in conjunction with Jammu and Kashmir police, and CRPF, conducted searches on Tuesday at eight locations in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kulgam, Srinagar, Doda and Kishtwar districts of the Valley in connection with the probe into J&K Bathindi IED recovery case.
The case was initially registered by Jammu and Kashmir police on June 27 at Bahu Fort police station in Jammu district relating to recovery of 5 kg IED from a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist in Bathindi, Jammu.
The conspiracy by LeT was aimed at causing an explosion in Jammu using the IED. The NIA had re-registered the case on July 19.
The NIA had earlier arrested three persons in this case.
“Investigation revealed that Pakistan based handlers of proscribed terror outfit LeT and their associates based in J&K are planning terrorist activities in J&K using the pseudo-acronym TRF so as to maintain plausible deniability and evade law enforcement agencies,” the NIA said in a statement.
During the searches conducted during the day, many digital devices and other incriminating
materials have been recovered from the premises of the suspects. Further investigation in the case is continuing, it said.
Meanwhile, the NIA has arrested a charge sheeted absconding accused Tabrez, 35, of Bengaluru Layout, Bengaluru City, Karnataka in connection with DJ Halli police station rioting case of 2020.
This case was originally registered on August 12, 2020 at Devarajeevanahalli Police Station, Bengaluru city under various sections of the
Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act Karnataka Prevention of Destruction & Loss of Property Act.
The case had arisen from the incident on August 11, 2020 wherein a mob protesting against the alleged derogatory social media (Facebook) post about Prophet
Mohammed posted by one Naveen, had turned violent and attacked the Police Station with dangerous weapons and stones and burnt police vehicles and damaged government and private properties.
The NIA had re-registered the case on September 21 last year and took up the investigation.
