An NIA Special Court in Kochi yesterday sentenced Nashidul Hamzafar, a native of Kalpetta, to five years imprisonment in connection with recruiting youths from the state to ISIS.

He is said to have recruited 14 youths from Kasargod in 2016, who exited the country along with their families between May and July that year to join the proscribed

organisation.

The next year, he reached Kabul from where he was detained and deported for illegally entering Afghanistan.

The matter came to light when the relatives of the youths preferred complaints with the Kasaragod police. The case was originally investigated by the Kasargod police and  was later handed over to the NIA
