The two-day Monsoon Session of Maharashtra Legislature concluded yesterday. As many as nine bills were passed in the session which functioned for little over 10 hours. Addressing a joint press conference Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed disappointment over the Opposition members behaviour on the first day of the session.
Maharashtra legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution, asking the Centre to provide a minimum of three crore COVID-19 vaccine doses per month to the state to reduce the impact of a possible third wave of the viral infection.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope, who moved the resolution in the house, said the state machinery was well equipped
to vaccinate 10 lakh people per day, provided the doses were available. Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday passed an amendment bill which allows classification of 50-year-old trees as “heritage” trees with an aim to increase the forest cover .
The amendment to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975 was tabled by Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
The amendment bill seeks to conserve old trees in urban areas and also tightens the rules for felling of trees for development works. It aims to increase the number of trees to be planted in lieu of the axed tree.
