Chhattisgarh Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal today suspended 30 Congress MLAs from the Assembly.
The Opposition MLAs were protesting the invitation extended by Chief Minister Raman Singh to mining giant Rio Tinto to invest in the state. They accused the mining multinational of having ties with tainted businessman Nirav Modi.
Nirav Modi is at the centre of the Rs 11,400-crore scam involving loans extended by Punjab National
Bank.
In January this year, Chief Minister Raman Singh led a delegation to Australia in a bid to woo foreign investors. The state is rich in minerals.
A state government spokesperson had said: "Chief minister Raman Singh met chief adviser (media relations) of Rio Tinto Jonathan Rose, who said the company would be exploring the options of exploring the options of partnering with Indian companies for developing mines in Chhattisgarh."
