The government has said, there is no proposal to discontinue 2,000 rupees notes, which were introduced post demonetisation. Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan said this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday.
The government had scrapped old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes in
November 2016, with an aim to check black money and push the digital economy.With regard to plastic notes, Mr Radhakrishnan said, it has been decided to conduct a field trial of plastic banknotes in denominations of ten rupees at five locations - Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, Shimla and Bhubaneshwar.
