New Delhi: Multiple buildings that are located near the now-demolished Noida twin towers have developed cracks on pillars, walls and window panes. Some of the window panes in the adjoining societies, including ATS, have been completely broken. Reports of damages to neighbouring properties came in as the residents returned to their homes after the demolition on Sunday.

Standalone pillars, walls, glass window panes and corners of buildings have been damaged due to the vibrations caused at the time of the explosion.

Cracks were also identified during the field analysis conducted by the Noida officials, Edifice Engineering, Jet Demolitions, and Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) after the explosion.

"The boundary wall of ATS Village adjoining twin towers suffered damages of about 10 metres. Windowpanes of several nearby apartments in both Emerald Court and ATS Village also got cracked," Senior Principal Scientist CBRI, DP Kanungo said earlier. However, no major structural changes have

been reported so far.

Around 5000 residents of the two societies closest to the twin towers were evacuated ahead of the explosion. The majority of them at the ATS Village and nearly half of Emerald Court returned to their homes by Monday afternoon.

The officials at Edifice Engineering, who were tasked with demolition had assured neighbours that there will be no damage to their buildings. The engineers had also run a vibration analysis before the blast.

The twin towers were brought down by controlled demolition using explosives. The waterfall imposition method was used for the blast by which the building fell directly like a waterfall. The blasting area was covered with four layers of iron mesh and two layers of blanket to avoid damage to nearby buildings.

Apex tower, the tallest among the two, had 32 storeys and the Ceyane had 29 floors. The demolition was carried out after the Supreme Court ordered to raze it down for violating several building norms.
