The Meteorology Department has announced that the North East Monsoon has arrived in the southern peninsular India. The weather officials have said most parts of Southern Tamil Nadu and isolated places in the Northern parts of the state and adjoining Puducherry have received rain.

Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre in Chennai Met office told the media that the dominance of the Easterly winds in the region has

also been observed to conclude that the North East Monsoon has set in.
The monsoon that brings maximum rainfall to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry last year failed, leading to drought and failure of crops.

Normally the rainy season begins by mid-October. However, the delayed season this year is expected to be normal as predicted by weather officials in their long-term forecast.
