North-east Monsoon further intensifies in Tamil Nadu

North-east Monsoon is further intensifying in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, bringing moderate to heavy rain in many areas.Schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur are closed for the third day today, with Tirunelveli district administration also declaring a holiday for schools. 

The MeT department has predicted rain in many coastal districts and northern interior areas of Tamil Nadu today. 

Many of the waterbodies in Tamil Nadu are witnessing significant rise in the level of water due to copious inflow.Officials



say, reservoirs catering to the drinking water needs of Chennai also witness good amount of inflow of water. 

However, in some parts of northern Chennai and suburban areas, water has entered into houses affecting normal life. Corporation officials have pumped out water from some areas.

The Metro rail the civil works and the rail services in the limited segments remain unaffected, though officials said the services in the elevated segments will be halted if wind speed exceeds 90 kilometer per hour.
