The oath taking process by the newly elected MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha completed yesterday. Barring five MPs, all MPs took oath in the last two days of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. The oath taking ceremony started yesterday with the oath taking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is the leader of the House in the Lok Sabha.
On the second day, prominent MPs including Om Birla, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Supriya Sule, Hema Malini, Yusuf Pathan among others took oath. From Uttar Pradesh, Kishori Lal and Imran Masood of Congress, Iqra Choudhary, Dimple Yadav, and Harendra Singh Malik from Samajwadi Party, BJP MPs Arun Govil, Kanwar Singh Tanwar, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Atul Garg, RLD MP Chandan Chauhan and Chandra Shekhar of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) took oath.
From West Bengal, Sougata Roy, Mohuaa Moitra, Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from TMC, Manoj Tigga, Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, Raju Bista of BJP also took oath. Most of the MPs from West Bengal took oath in Bangla. From Maharashtra Amol Khole of NCP (Sharad Pawar), Dr. Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena (Shinde group) as well as BJP MP Narayan Rane, and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT) took oath. From Punjab, former Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjeet Singh Channi,
Harsimrat Kaur Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal took oath, besides Sambit Patra, Baijayant Panda, and Pratap Chandra Sarangi of BJP from Odisha. Congress MPs from Manipur, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam also took oath this afternoon. From Rajasthan, BJP MPs Om Birla and Dushyant Singh, and Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena, Amraram of CPI(M), and Hanuman Beniwal of RLP also took oath.
The elected MPs from Telangana also made affirmations before the house. Dr. Mallu Ravi of Congress, DK Aruna of BJP among others also took oath. From Tamil Nadu, Dayanidhi Maran, TR Baalu and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of DMK, Sasikanth Senthil of Congress and K Gopinath also took the oath. From Telangana, BJP’s Arvind Dharmapuri, Congress’s Suresh Kumar Shetkar and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen AIMIMs’ Asaduddin Owaisi also took oath.
MPs took oath in a number of languages including Bangla, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Marathi, Odia, Tamil besides Hindi, Urdu and English.
The election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled today, while the President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
