Bhubaneswar: Newly elected MLA of Jharsuguda, Deepali Das, of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) took oath as legislator of the Odisha Assembly yesterday.

She was administered the oath by Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly, Rajanikant Singh, at his chamber. Deepali had won the by-poll held for the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency on 10th of this month by defeating her nearest BJP candidate Tankadhar Tripathy by a margin of 48,721



votes.

The by-poll was necessitated after the killing of Deepali's father Naba Kishore Das, a Cabinet minister in the Naveen Patnaik government.

Revenue Minister Pramila Mallick and Handlooms, Textiles and Handicraft Minister Rita Sahu and many senior officials of the Odisha Legislative Assembly were present at the oath-taking meeting. Deepali had met Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik yesterday after winning the by-poll.
