A 49-year-old teacher was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up mercilessly by the owner of a coaching centre for demanding payment arrears.
The shocking incident was reported from Khandapada police limits in Nayagarh district and came to light after the video of the assault went viral on the social media. The victim, Mayadhar Mohapatra, lodged a complaint in this regard on Friday.
According to sources, Mohapatra teaches English at a coaching centre named Satyasai Coaching owned by Tapan Mohapatra at Bapujinagar under Khandapada police limits in Nayagarh district. Tapan had not paid salary to Mohapatra for several months.
The teacher repeatedly met Tapan and demanded the payment arrears. Recently, when Mohapatra met the Tapan and demanded the arrears, the latter flew into a rage.
Later, coaching centre owner
along with his two associates took the teacher to a secluded place in Kantilo area, tied him to a tree and thrashed him mercilessly. The trio even verbally abused the teacher and threatened him with life if he disclosed the matter to anyone, the victim said in his complaint.
On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant Sections of IPC. “A probe has been launched into the matter,” said inspector-in-charge Bimal Kumar Mallick.
“The coaching centre owner and his associates had gagged me. The trio drank beers and attacked me with the empty bottles,” the victim said in his complaint.
“The teacher suffered injuries on different parts of his body. Following the lodging of the complaint, the accused are on the run. Efforts are on to nab the accused coaching centre owner and his two associates,” IIC Mallick said.
