In Jammu & Kashmir, the vehicular traffic of light and heavy motor vehicles on strategic 300 Km national highway shall be allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu today subject to fair weather and road condition. Traffic officials said that traffic won't be allowed to move from the opposite direction i.e Jammu towards Srinagar.  Yesterday, only stranded  vehicles particularly trucks with essentials and fuel tankers  besides passenger vehicles were cleared to move from Jammu towards Srinagar.

The national highway was partially reopened last Saturday after remaining closed for six consecutive days due to unfavourable road condition besides continuous shooting stones and landslides at several places along highway.  The highway is the only all weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country that was closed on January 21 following heavy snowfall .In addition, multiple landslides triggered by the

incessant rains hit the road stretch between Banihal and Ramban upto Jan 26.

Meanwhile, meteorological office has predicted dry weather for another day or so. The dry weather with clear night sky leads to downfall of night minimum temperature in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Qazigund besides Drass, Kargil and Leh areas.

MeT department predicted that weather is likely to turn erratic tomorrow and day after. MeT officials said light snowfall is expected in plains while moderate snowfall could occur in higher reaches of Kashmir Valley and elsewhere in the State. Meanwhile, traffic authorities have appealed travellers to abide by the one way schedule on Srinagar Jammu highway. They said those who reach Banihal by train from Kashmir, won’t be allowed to violate one way traffic schedule and strict action under law shall be taken against violators.
