Opposition leaders today moved the Supreme Court against the rejection of impeachment notice against the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
Congress leader and Senior advocate Kapil Sibal mentioned the plea for urgent hearing before Justice Chelameswar. Mr Sibal said the impeachment notice was against Chief Justice of India, hence the senior-most judge can direct for the listing of the petition.
Justice Chelameswar said, there was
a Constitution bench verdict on the master of the roster and the petition should be mentioned before the CJI. The Vice-President, last month, had rejected a notice by seven Opposition parties led by the Congress seeking the impeachment of the Chief Justice of India.
The Vice President had rejected the impeachment motion citing the absence of any “proved misbehaviour” or “incapacity” on the part of the senior judge.
