Over 13 lakh people affected due to flood in Bihar

In Bihar, around 13 lakh people are reeling under the fury of a flood due to the sudden rise of the water level of the Ganga and other rivers. Twelve districts, including Patna, Begusarai, Vaishali, Khagaria, Saran, Munger, and Bhagalpur, are worst affected by the flood. Heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Ganga in the neighbouring states of Bihar has created flood situations in low-lying areas.

Rail and road traffic has been affected at several places. Rail traffic has been stopped on the Jamalpur-Bhagalpur rail section as a precautionary measure due to flood water crossing the girders of the rail bridge near Ratanpur in Munger. Eastern Railway has cancelled eight trains and diverted more than 20 on this route in view of the safety of passengers. DRM of Malda Division



Manish Kumar Gupta said Railway is closely keeping an eye on the situation.

In flood-hit Munger district, several villages are inundated in Asarganj block due to the rise of the water level of Ganga. Flood water is overtopping on National Highway 80 and State Highway 333 at several places. In Patna, the Ganga is flowing above danger level at several places, including Gandhighat, Hathidah, Maner, and Digha ghat. In Begusarai, boats are plying in several localities due to deluge.

Standing crops, seasonal horticulture crops, and green vegetables are damaged due to the flood. The Agriculture Department has said that compensation will be provided to affected farmers after an assessment of the loss.
