Over 200 cows have died in two days reportedly due to starvation in a Gaushala run by a BJP leader at Rajpur village in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
Rajpur village Sarpanch Pati Sevaram Sahu alleged negligence by the cow shelter owner for the death of cows.
The BJP leader, Harish Verma, who is also the vice president of Jamul Nagar Nigam, has been running the shelter for last seven years, reports Hindustan Times.
District official, Rajesh Patre, who visited the spot, said:

''We have done post mortem, report awaited but prima facie it seems proper care of the cows was not taken.''
'My gaushala (cow shelter) is overcrowded. There are more than 650 cows against the capacity of 220. I have intimated the government many times that I am not able to feed them but in vain. More than Rs 10 lakh meant for the gaushala is pending with the government but they have not granted till now. I am not guilty for the deaths,' Hindustan Times quoted Harish Verma as saying.
