Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that over 30.6 lakh persons have been enrolled so far under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) scheme.
In a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Gangwar said, so far, the number of beneficiaries of the scheme across various states and Union Territories (UTs) stood at 30 lakh 67 thousand 258.
According to the details provided by the minister, the highest number of beneficiaries was reported from Haryana at over 6 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at 5. 53 Lakh and Uttar Pradesh at 5.10
lakh.
Under the scheme, Government provides assured monthly pension of 3,000 Rupees, with the contribution of a nominal amount of 100 Rupees per month, for workers in the unorganised sector after 60 years of age.
Mr Gangwar further said that to provide social security benefits to the workers in the unorganised sector, the government has enacted the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act, 2008.
The scheme will cover all those unorganised sector workers like an auto-rickshaw driver, whose income is up to 15,000 Rupees per month.
