Supreme Court Judge and Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority, NALSA Justice B R Gavai has said that over seven crore 70 lakh cases were disposed of by organising three National Lok Adalats this year.

In these Lok Adalats, conducted by NALSA, pending cases and legal disputes were settled. In an interview on the occasion of Human Rights Day, Justice B R Gavai said that NALSA organises National Lok Adalats thrice a year in the country where cases pending in the



courts for many years are settled amicably.

Justice B R Gavai said that under the guidance of NALSA, legal services authorities are working to provide free legal aid to needy persons. It also takes active steps towards protecting human rights. In 2012, NALSA advocated for the rights of the transgender community after which a case was filed in the Supreme Court which gave a historic decision about recognising transgender as third gender.
