New Delhi: The government has so far disbursed over two lakh 41 thousand crore rupees to over 11 crore farmers in the country under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM-KISAN.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said under the scheme an amount of six thousand rupees per year is transferred in three 4-month installments of two thousand rupees directly into the bank accounts of the farmers.
The Minister said PM-KISAN is a flagship scheme of the Centre and one of the world’s largest
Direct Benefit Transfer Schemes. He said according to a study, the funds received by recipients under PM-KISAN are not only helping them with agricultural needs, but it is also catering to their other expenses such as education, medical and marriage.
He said the scheme aims at providing financial assistance to cultivable landholding farmers across the country to enable them to take care of expenses related to agriculture and allied activities as well as other incidental expenses. This scheme has been implemented since 1st December 2018.
