Oxygen tanks to be set up in all tertiary Covid-19 hospitals, says Telangana Health Minister

To ensure there is no shortage of oxygen for Covid-19 positive patients, the State government will establish huge capacity liquid oxygen tanks within the premises of all State-run tertiary Covid-19 designated hospitals in Hyderabad and districts.

As part of this initiative, the authorities in the coming weeks will set-up these liquid oxygen tanks in MGM Hospital in Warangal, District Hospital, King Koti, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehdipatnam, Osmania General Hospital in Afzalgunj, Fever Hospital in Nallakunta, Chest Hospital, Erragadda, and Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli.

Such liquid oxygen tanks, which are already present in Gandhi Hospital and NIMS hospital campus, ensure the availability of oxygen for months and need not have to depend on the supply-chain of distributors.

“Instead of buying



oxygen cylinders on a piecemeal basis, we have decided to establish such liquid oxygen tanks, which will ensure a non-stop supply of oxygen for months to the entire hospital that caters to at least 500 Covid patients,” Health Minister, Eatala Rajender, on Sunday said.

Rajender, while interacting with presspersons during his visit to TIMS, Gachibowli, said that already the project to establish liquid oxygen tanks in tertiary care hospitals has received a green signal and related works will be completed in the coming weeks.

“In the meanwhile, before the liquid oxygen tanks are established, there is a definite need for oxygen cylinders for Covid-19 patients admitted to all tertiary care facilities in Hyderabad and districts. By August 10, we will be able to complete a major bulk purchase of oxygen for all government hospitals in the State,” he said.
