Staring at yet another washed out session of Parliament, the Centre on Wednesday extended an olive branch to the Opposition by clarifying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi never questioned his predecessor Manmohan Singh and former Vice President Hamid Ansari's commitment to the nation.
In a statement given in the Rajya Sabha, leader of the house Arun Jaitley said: "PM in his (Gujarat election) speeches didn't question, nor meant to question the commitment to this nation of either former PM Manmohan Singh or Former VP Hamid Ansari."
"Any such perception is
erroneous, we hold these leaders in high esteem, as well as their commitment to India," he added.
Following the statement, leader of opposition in the upper house, Ghulam Nabi Azad too clarified the party's stand on the controversial statement made by party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar.
With both sides calling truce, the Rajya Sabha is expected to start functioning from Thursday when the crucial Triple Talaq Bill will be tabled in Parliament.
The ceasefire comes just five days ahead of the end of the ongoing Winter Session.
