Both the Upper and Lower houses of Parliament adjourned proceedings within an hour of starting, as the results of the Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh started pouring in on Monday.

Both houses were also rocked by protests by the Opposition, which demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise for alleging that his predecessor Manmohan Singh spoke to Pakistani officials about the Gujarat elections.

Both houses will now meet at 11 am on Tuesday.

The Lok Sabha was first

adjourned for an hour minutes after it met on Monday, after Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirit Somaiya, who had the first question listed, said his party was winning both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Firstpost reported.

Soon after, the Opposition started protesting, forcing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to suspend the proceedings till noon.

When the house reconvened, Opposition members again shouted slogans demanding an apology from the Prime Minister for his comments about Singh, forcing the proceedings to be adjourned.
