Partial Solar Eclipse 2019: Timings, venues; all you need to know about January 6 ‘Surya Grahan'

The first solar eclipse of the year 2019 will take place tomorrow (January 6). A total of two solar eclipse will occur in 2019. The partial solar eclipse set to occur tomorrow will start from 5 AM (IST), however, it will not be visible in India.

The eclipse will be visible from parts of North-East Asia and Pacific Ocean. The eclipse will take place worldwide between 11:34 pm (UTC/GMT) and 3:48 am (UTC/GMT). Indian timings for the eclipse are 5 AM (IST) to 9:18 AM (IST) on January 6.

The solar eclipse is a celestial phenomenon when earth, moon and sun come in a straight alignment. Moon comes in between earth and sun. Moon takes the central position stopping the sunlight from reaching the earth. During total solar



eclipse, sun is totally covered by the moon while in the case of partial solar eclipse, the central part of the sun is covered by moon making the former look like a disc. During total solar eclipse, it turns dark as sun is covered by moon and earth’s temperature gets affected during the same.

Although this partial solar eclipse will not be visible from India, it can be viewed from counties like Siberia, Mongolia, northeast China, Japan, and Korea. It will also be visible from North Pacific Ocean, as well as southwest Alaska. A partial solar eclipse is not safe to watch from naked eyes and special glasses can be used to watch the phenomena. People should use pinhole cameras and special solar eclipse protection glasses to watch partial solar eclipse.
